Guys! Here it is, Here are The Basics I believe every guy needs to have in their wardrobe! whether it is to just start off or to just add these items to your current wardrobe. Everything can be utilized to your advantage for better style with these Basic items.
Okay Guys, so The Basics is something I believe every guy needs to have in his wardrobe. These pieces he can utilize the most in most style situations. let's start off with the #1 item I think every guy needs which is a Navy Blazer.
.) Navy Blazer. A Navy Blazer is a huge staple piece in any man's wardrobe. It can be dressed down with a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt, Or you can dress it up with a good pair of tailored dress pants. The Navy Blazer is versatile in most situations. A great Navy Blazer I would recommend is the Traveler Blazer from Canali. A great water resistant, wrinkle resistant, full canvas garment that feels amazing and lasts.
.) Basic suits. Navy and Charcoal Grey. These two suits, I believe, should be every guy's 1st and 2nd suit. They are the most versatile suits with any colour shoes and 9 times out of 10 you can put any shirt with them as well. Having a tailored navy and charcoal grey suit will automatically step up your style. The suits can be worn casually and also the jackets make great sports coats, utilizing their full potential. I recommend any brand that is full or half canvassed. For a traditional guy, I would recommend Canali, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hickey Freeman. If you want more inexpensive half canvas garments then I would recommend for traditional guys Peter Millar, Hart Schaffner and Marx, David Donahue. For a more slimmer fella, I would recommend Eleventy, Hart Schaffner and Marx L.A fit, Strong Suit Clothing, and Ted Baker. All of those brands above for slimmer guys are all Half Canvassed.
.) A style Blazer. Get yourself something with a little colour and pattern. Nothing too loud because you are just starting off and something that is still versatile. Do a window pain, maybe a small houndstooth, or even a small checked sports coat. Choose something that will be versatile with your other pieces. How do you know if it is? Look at the patterns of other shirts you have and compare them to the jacket. Make sure the patterns are 2 totally different sizes. I personally love exploded plaid patterns or window pane patterns. And keep the colours basic. Get a Navy blazer with a light white, or grey window pain or plaid on it. Nothing too crazy, but something different enough to stand out just a little. For this, I would recommend Made To Measure. Made to Measure is a great way to chose from a bunch of fabrics to chose the right one for you. This is also the process I recommend you do once you get more comfortable with getting different pattern suits or different styles. Brands I recommend for Made to Measure would be Ermenegildo Zegna, Canali, Hickey Freeman, Hart Schaffner and Marx, Strong Suit Clothing, and Peter Millar. Not in any particular order.
.) Sartorial Accessories. Pocket Square, Tie Bar, Stripped tie, Small pattern tie, Fun socks. Now, with a pocket square, start off with a crisp white pocket square. You can get this anywhere, literally anywhere. A white pocket square will go with absolutely anything when you wear your suit or blazer. Make sure to grab a tie bar to go with your ties. Nothing too crazy, just make sure its stainless steel or sterling silver. Something that doesn't look cheap. And as far as ties go, start off with the basics. Get a nice simple stripe tie. A navy tie with white stripes, I recommend small stripes personally. And then get a small pattern tie, small polka dots or little checks. Again stick with versatile colours, this is your base wardrobe. Fun socks, go a little loud with them. If you're wearing your navy suit, try out a rust red pair of fun socks to go with it. Put some stripes on it. I usually recommend polka dots or stripes on my socks. I've never been a huge fan of items on my socks like anchors or animals, it's not a great sartorial sock to wear but for casual outfits, I'd say go for it! Any of these items I would recommend so many brands to go with on any of these accessories. The Tie Bar is a good brand for ties. For socks, I would recommend Paul Smith. For a Tie bar I would recommend David Donahue or David Yurman, And for pocket squares, I would recommend Armstrong and Wilson.
.) White/ Blue Dress shirt. So again, this is just the basics. But a clean white oxford shirt and Blue shirt is a great way to start off in your dress shirts. I would actually even throw in a lavender shirt. These 3 shirts are so versatile and go with just almost anything. Make sure they are tailored and fit to your body correctly so that way you're golden! For shirts, I would recommend Eton Shirts. An amazing brand and a great quality shirt.
.) Brown / Black Leather shoe. I believe every guy needs a great pair of Brown leather shoes And one pair of A solid black leather shoe. I would recommend an Oxford shoe. A great pair for any formal or casual occasion in a man's life. Also, always make sure you have a leather belt that matches your leather shoe, always match your leathers! Great shoe brands I recommend is Santoni, Magnanni, and To Boot Newyork.
.) Leather Bag. Make sure you have a stylish leather bag. For the business hours and for casual use. Something that can go well with a suit and denim jacket. Ferragamo and Gucci are great bags for this. They always use quality leather. And they always have a bag that can go with anything.
.) Chinos. You need to have these in your wardrobe. Chinos are the perfect casual pant, and it is so easy to dress them up just as much as you can dress them down. They're very comfortable and when you get a tailored fit chino they look amazing. You can wear them with that navy blazer, or with a white fitted t-shirt and sneakers. I would recommend AG for some great chinos!
.) Denim (Jeans). You need a dark wash and light wash pair of jeans. A dark wash pair of jeans can go a long way for you in your style. You'll always have and will want and need a dark pair of jeans. You can dress them up or down or wear them, however. When they fit right and are made of good denim material, you can never go wrong. I recommend Jean shop denim. They're really great selvedge denim.
.) A casual Jacket. A denim or leather jacket. One of these two or even both are good choices to have for your casual wardrobe. You can put them over a shirt and tie and chinos, or a fitted t-shirt or polo and chinos.
.) Fitted T shirt. You can literally get this anywhere. Just make sure the colour is white or a slated matte finish t-shirt to wear it casually and look good. Wear it under your blazer, or wear under that denim/leather jacket. Wear it with shorts or wear it with jeans or chinos. You can't go wrong.
.) Fitted Polo/Sports shirt. A fitted Polo/Sports shirt can always look good for a more upscale casual look. You don't want to wear the t-shirt casually, this is the perfect alternative. Grab a well-designed Polo, I recommend Ted Baker for a great fitting and great looking Polo and sports shirts.
.) Classic white sneakers. A clean pair of white sneakers will be a great look with every casual outfit. And if you're bold enough, you can throw it with your well fitted tailored suit. A good pair of white sneakers you can get from Adidas (Stan Smith), Magnanni leather sneaker.
.) Sunglasses. Make sure you have a great pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses can go with everything. And make sure they are proportionate to your head as well. I recommend Ray Bans for a classic pair of good sunglasses.
.) Wallet . Grow up and get a good wallet. I can't believe how many times I still see guys using Velcro wallets. Stop it. Go get a wallet that isn't the size of a textbook. Frye, Rag and Bone, Gucci, Ferragamo, Bosca. All good brands to get a great wallet.
.) Cologne. So by cologne, I mean perfume. Perfume is not just for women so relax. Perfume doesn't decide the sex of the scent. Perfume is more oil based and is actually better than cologne. Where cologne is more alcohol based. I recommend Creed for your scent gentleman. I personally like Aventus by Creed. Creed is the oldest fragrance house in the world and they are either the best or some of the best in the whole world.
